Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands and sixth in size in Greece. It is 781km2 in size with 254km of coastline. The climate is sub-tropical with mild winters and dry hot summers. It is the second sunniest place in Greece. It offers the most desirable, ecluded locations one can find in the Mediterranean area.

 

It remains an unspoiled paradise, perfect for anyone who’s looking for an ideal residence whether it is seasonal or permanent. Kefalonia  has  something  for  everyone,  quality of life,  great  weather (2nd sunniest place in Greece), friendly  people,  amazing scenery, beautiful sandy beaches, high mountains covered with fir forests, wild life, history, culture and most of all character.

Kefalonia is famous for its natural resources and incomparable beauty, providing recreation possibilities for mountain and sea holidays. The island offers a long coastline, sandy beaches, geological phenomena, a world unique National Park on mountain Ainos, wild life, bio topes and marshlands. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece are on these islands. Best for sand lovers Myrtos, Kefalonia Myrtos is a stunning white crescent of sand, often featured in posters. With only one restaurant on the beach, it is delightfully undeveloped. Myrtos beach was voted amongst top 15 beaches in the world as featured on BBC NEWS 24, The Guardian, Independent and Mail newspaper.

 

Ainos mountain range (1621m) is the highest on the Ionian Islands It is covered with breathtaking fir forests. It is 1 of 10 protected National Parks of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Greece. It features a worldwide unique fir tree and wild life such as wild horses, wild goats and eagles. The mountainous terrain of the islands are suitable for trekking expeditions, climbing, horse riding and other all year around sports. Once voted 10th in a world scenic beauty league for its relaxed, uncrowded, deserted beaches.

 

There are perfumed pine forests, majestic mountains, curvy coastlines, charming fishing villages and excellent wines. They are rich in culture and long history going back 5000 years. There are several ancient monuments such as Royal Tombs, 2 Acropolis, a series of Cyclopean Walls, Byzantine and Venetian Castles. Homer wrote about a man’s eternal quest to return to his beloved homeland inspired by the beauty of this land. This is the land of Uldyseus. Louis De Bernier was also inspired by this land and wrote his book 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Its success inspired movie producers to make it into a film that was set on the island.

 

Its coasts form steep cliffs and small bays with magnificent, wind-protected beaches, Little coves that used to shelter pirate galleons and Venetian merchant ships are harbours for yachts from all over the world. Many celebrities have discovered Kefalonia in the recent years Madonna, Tom Cruz and Nicholas Cage come frequent for their holidays. Kevin Kostner and Robert Redford have invested in properties on the island. Prince Charles and the late Princess Dianna have spent part of their honey moon here. Transportation connections are very frequent (ferry, bus, airplane connections). Kefalonia has an international airport with connections to Athens (all year around) and other major European Cities.

Of the approximate 365 villages on this large and diverse island, Fiscardo is unique in that it was left virtually undamaged during the great earthquake of 1953,that ruined most of the  historic buildings on Kefalonia.
